The Cal Stars Basketball Club announces our Spring/Summer 2020 Basketball Season. We are extremely excited for another season of basketball and feel we have made some key changes that will enhance our club as we continue to evolve as a program.
ABOUT CAL STARS:
The Cal Stars Basketball Club was established in 2006 by our Club Director Kelly Sopak. The Cal Stars provide a year-round program with quality coaching and instruction for girls from 3rd through 12th grade. We compete in select sanctioned AAU tournaments and NCAA certified exposure events In California, Western Region and Nationally.
Cal Stars will once again represent the SWOOSH as one of only 32 Nationally Sponsored Nike teams. We are excited about Nike and their new product lines as well as our resolve and mission to grow the game in line with Nike and their youth sports objectives. As a Nike sponsored team the Cal Stars have the fortunate opportunity to participate in the best and most viewed college viewing tournaments in the country.
CAL STAR HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS
Last spring and summer the Cal Stars featured SEVEN National Travel Teams. A true tribute to the Cal Stars dedication to the sport and also the abundance of talent here in Northern California. 2020 promises to be another great year for the Cal Stars. We offer teams at all high school grades and levels. Our 2020 menu of teams is as follows:
17 Nike EYBL, 17 National, 16 Nike EYBL, 16/17 Flight, 15 EYBL, 15 Flight
Our goal, at the Cal Stars, is simply to provide a program that can consistently compete on a national level with multiple teams and simultaneously provide fundamental excellence for as many players as possible. We have developed a training program using quality coaches to improve both our coaches and players skills. To meet this goal, we are structured to have multiple teams within each age group, with one of those teams consisting of the most elite players to compete regionally and/or nationally.
At the high school level, we make every attempt to position our players for entry into college programs, including Division I, II, III, NAIA and Junior College. Our success in this placement generally comes from realistic expectations for the players and their parents. We firmly believe that ANY player can play basketball in college with the proper skill development, passion and assistance.
Cal Stars is part of the Nike EYBL. The Cal Stars 16 & 17 EYBL teams are the flagship teams of the Cal Stars. Both of these teams are members of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, EYBL. The EYBL is a unique national league wherein the thirty-two nationally sponsored Nike teams at the 16 and 17u level compete in a 32 team National League. The thirty-two teams are seeded at each one of the FOUR Nike EYBL tournament stops In Hampton, VA, Beaverton, OR, Fishers Indiana & Chicago, Il.
The "League" has it is referred to is often imitated but never duplicated. The NIKE EYBL features live streaming, college officials, full statistical data on all games and players, frozen rosters and the full blitz of social media and national media publications at every game. Winning matters in the EYBL and it brings out the best in the top talent nationally!
A complete list of our tournament schedule is available on our website and will be made available during the course of our tryouts. Our tournament schedule features a unique mix of tournaments nationally and regionally, including a few big tournaments here in Northern California. In our 14 years of running a national level basketball club we feel strongly that our tournament schedule provides the maximum amount of college exposure for all of our teams.
While Nike does require our 16 & 17 EYBL teams to attend certain events we make sure the other tournaments we attend are highly successful and long running events that feature the most college coaches to ensure our player exposure during the critical months of the travel season. We urge you to review our schedule and do all of the comparisons as this schedule is proven to gain the most exposure for our players and program.
Our practice schedule will be released during the course of the tryouts. Typically, we practice 2x per week at local facilities in the Walnut Creek, Martinez & Orinda area. In addition, we also have scheduled training camps wherein we practice on select weekend dates that will also include a Friday night practice/training event. Our 17 EYBL does not practice weekly as we keep the practice times to training camps only. However, local players can attend weekly practice and training sessions.
The Cal Stars is by far the #1 Basketball Club in Northern California for placing student athletes in/at respective colleges. Not only do we have a proven track record of placing massive amounts of players into college we do so at all levels. We have established contacts with coaches from all over the country at all levels of play, from Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 and NAIA. Please check out our website for a partial list of our players that have moved on to the next level.
TRYOUT EVALUATION PROCESS
Due to high demand and our multiple teams and varying levels of skill we hold tryouts & evaluations each and every spring without promising players roster spots on individual teams. We feel strongly that matching the players with commensurate skill level on the same teams provides the right growth for the individual player and the collective group as a team. We hold three tryout dates and will form teams on an ongoing basis.
