The Cal Stars Basketball Club announces our Youth Summer 2017 Basketball Season. Our summer season will begin with practices beginning June 5. We are extremely excited for another season of basketball and feel we have made some key changes that will enhance our program as we continue to evolve as a program. The Cal Stars will once again represent the SWOOSH as one of only 32 Nationally Sponsored Nike teams. We are excited about Nike and their new product lines as well as our resolve and mission to grow the game in line with Nike and their youth sports objectives.

An exciting change this year, Cal Stars has partnered with Ultimate Sports Association to provide additional opportunities for youth players.  This partnership has allowed for the formation of the "Cal Stars U" teams for grades 3rd through 8th grade. The Cal Stars U teams will play in local tournaments and in the MVP Flight league. Cal Stars Elite teams (6th - 8th grade) will play locally, and travel both regionally and nationally for tournament play.  During the registration process, please select the team  (Cal Stars Elite or Cal Stars U)  and grade you are registering for.  Tryouts for the Cal Stars Elite teams have already taken place, but if you would like to be evaluated for a position on one of the Elite teams, coaches will evaluate players on a case by case basis. Players who are not selected for a Cal Stars Elite team will be placed on the Cal Stars U team for that grade level.

The Cal Stars Basketball Club was established in 2006 to provide a year round program with quality coaching and instruction for girls from 3rd through 12th grade. We compete in select sanctioned AAU tournaments and NCAA certified exposure events In California, Western Region and Nationally. Last spring and summer the Cal Stars featured SIX National Travel Teams. A true tribute to the Cal Stars dedication to the sport and also the abundance of talent here in Northern California.

Our goal is to provide a program that can consistently compete on a national level with multiple teams and simultaneously provide fundamental excellence for as many players as possible. We have developed a training program using quality coaches to improve both our coaches and players skills. To meet this goal, we are structured to have multiple teams within each age group, with one of those teams consisting of the most elite players to compete regionally and/or nationally. However, these rosters will be fluid and skill level, availability and fit do change and evolve over the course of the season. All grade levels practice together to ensure the proper fundamental skills are being developed. All of our teams are afforded quality gym time for practices and excellent coaching instruction.

At the high school level we make every attempt to position these girls for entry into college programs, including Division I, II, III, NAIA and Junior College. Our success in this placement generally comes from realistic expectations for the players and their parents. We firmly believe that ANY player can play basketball in college with the proper skill development, passion and assistance.

Please make sure to read all the information carefully in regard to registration for the 2017 Summer season.
